I know we are in a global crisis for medical supplies and the US manufacturers are way behind in their production. With this in mind hospitals, doctor's offices, and different companies are looking overseas to find N95 masks or surgical gowns and gloves. Often these companies feel their job is done as soon as they find a quality supplier at a quality price.
Because we've been doing this for so long, we know that taking shortcuts on freight or shortcuts in any way never ends well. Let me explain why this is not a good idea when dealing with medical supplies or anything else for that matter.
Situation...you find a good supplier and price...and they tell you "they'll handle the freight" to you all the way to Long Beach or New Jersey or wherever you want it. The problem is, this is a profit center for them, they can make a few extra dollars by literally shipping your products to port the cheapest way possible.
If that means shipping your products on the back of a bicycle or the back of another truck carrying produce or animals...they'll do it. I've seen some of the craziest things from suppliers trying to make a few extra pennies it would blow your mind. So here's the point, not all factories are bad and not all factories take these shortcuts but how would you know? How would you know if you are not aware of the games that are played?
A freight forwarder works for you. They inspect your freight at the factory, at the loading dock and port, and again all the way into the US. It's their job to protect your cargo and a freight forwarder, in our opinion, is worth every penny. When you work with a company...the right company...they will have a freight forwarder, a US office and support staff, and an overseas office to make sure every step of your order is protected.
