Packaging Barrier Requirements for Beef Jerky

One of the most important factors to consider in the food and beverage packaging industry is the freshness of the product. This is particularly important while selling products like beef jerky.

Although standup bags are very useful for food packaging, jerky has different requirements. While a beef jerky bag can be a pouch stand up, it is essentially anaerobic. Absence of oxygen is the thing that differentiates a regular standup pouch from a beef jerky one. Sucking out oxygen is considered as one of the most effective ways to store beef jerky as it retain its freshness.

Although it is easy to suck out air from the bag, it is not usually recommended. When air is sucked out from the bag, the pack gets crumpled. And when the pack lacks a visual appeal, it does not get many buyers. This is why most big players like to use alternative methods.

One such method is to use an oxygen absorber. We are not talking about a dessicator here. Oxygen absorbers absorb the oxygen present in the pouch, and are easily available in the market.

This way, the shape of packaging is retained while the freshness of jerky stays intact.

We offer custom barrier bags and stand up pouches for different types of products. We also have our very own graphics department that helps in creating custom graphics and imprinting them on the packaging.
