Liquid Packaging Using Spouted Stand Up Pouches -- Part Two

Spouted Stand Up BagAs I mentioned in part one, spouted stand up pouches, also known as stand bags or stand up bags, have been used for dry applications such as powders and spices that can be mixed with other liquids like water or oil or even alcohol to create salad dressing, frozen drinks, or even marinades.  Further, I mentioned how spouted stand bags are now being looked at to hold straight alcohol like vodka and gin or even wine.

Part One was helping our clients identify the size spouted stand pouch.  Today in Part Two, we want to help shed some light onto choosing the correct structure.  The important thing to keep in mind is knowing the exact ingredients of your liquid product.  Alcohol itself can be very destructive to certain types of flexible film.  If your liquid product contains oil, like salad dressing or a marinade, certain layers react negatively to oil which can weaken the seals and cause the spouted stand pouch to weaken.  Lets not forget the obvious, if you are packaging a cleaning chemical that is a liquid, your stand up pouch supplier will need to know what your product is made of.  For instance, some films such as nylon are suitable for products that contain oil, while foil in the structure is recommended for very caustic applications just to provide a few quick examples.

Here's the key.  Spouted stand bags are perfect for packaging liquid products.  However, these flexible pouches are made from different layers of barrier film laminated together.  There is a real science to using the correct layers so they not only contain your product within the pouch, but keep it fresh and free of any unwanted odors or contaminants.  Always, always, always share with your packaging professional what your liquid product is made of, even the smallest amount of something could make a difference.  From there your spouted stand bag supplier can recommend the correct layers to protect your liquid and assure that it stands effectively on a store shelf.

In closing...Step One...work with your spouted stand up pouch supplier to help you determine the size you'll need.  Step Two focuses on getting the right material structure.  Step Three will deal with custom printing and spout sizes.  Interested in spouted stand up pouches?
