Flexible Packaging and Stand Up Pouches

flexible packagingWhen we talk about flexible packaging, we mean packaging that is both structurally and functionally flexible, packaging that is easy to use and offers superior protection and is also suitable for a variety of products. Stand up pouches are perhaps the best example of both meanings of flexible packaging.

Stand up pouches are made from multiple layers of scientifically-formulated (food-grade, if necessary) film that is strong, durable, puncture-resistant and, yes, flexible. These barrier bags protect contents from vapor, odor, moisture, and pests while, at the same time, preserving shelf life for food and other perishable items. In other words, you have the flexibility to use stand up pouches for almost any type of product.

Also known as stand up bags, Mylar® pouches and custom print bags, stand up pouches are convenient to use. Although they're puncture-resistant, they are flexible enough to store easily anywhere, whether it be in the garage, kitchen, hall closet, bathroom, refrigerator/freezer, purse, backpack or trunk of the car.

Stand up pouches also illustrate flexible packaging when it comes to marketing your brand. Packaging influences consumer behavior at point-of-sale more than any other marketing tool at your disposal. Consider, then, that stand up pouches not only stand up on store shelves (thereby distinguishing your brand from those of your competitors) but can also be displayed via optional round and sombrero-shaped hang holes.

The design of stand up pouches provides additional marketing flexibility. The wide front and back panels of each pouch permit the use of clear and/or translucent film for barrier construction, customized printing in up to 10 colors, the application of product labels and other stickers, or any combination of these choices.

In addition to the other features we've mentioned, stand up pouch flexible packaging is environmentally-friendly as well. Although a stand up pouch consists of multiple film layers, it actually requires up to 12 percent less material to make than most other packaging bags. When less material is used, less waste is ultimately generated. In addition, each pouch weighs less so shipping requires less fuel per unit. And the pouches are recyclable.
