Chances are, most consumers have one or more products in their homes packaged in a stand up pouch and, if so, they appreciate the convenience and versatility this packaging offers. What most consumers probably don't really think about, however, is the numerous other features that make [standup pouches](https://www.standuppouches.net/contact-us/) such a superior packaging choice. [Standup pouches](https://www.standuppouches.net/contact-us/) protect contents from air, light, odor, pests, vapor and/or moisture, depending on the properties of the particular product. By laminating together multiple layers of special (and, if necessary, food grade) film, we are able to create a barrier bag that is strong, stable, durable and puncture-resistant. Not only does the barrier protect contents, it also extends the shelf life of those with a "best by" date. Convenient zip lock closures not only preserve products, but they prevent spills. Optional tear notches make the pouches easy to open. And, for liquid products, available pour spouts and resealable caps lock in product freshness and prevent leaks and spills as well. Powtoon What Is Flexographic PrintingWhat is flexographic printing? And can I use it for printed stand-up pouches? Flexographic printing has come a long way over the past 10 years. And the print quality has definitely gotten better. However, for custom printed stand-up pouches, there are better ways to print. However, as promised, I'll explain flexographic printing. Flexographic printing goes back to the 1800s, late 1800s to be exact. It's a form of printing which utilizes a flexible relief plate. It's essentially a modern version of a letter press and can be used on almost any type of substrate, plastic, metalized films, foil, cellophane, even paper. It's widely used for printing on non-porous substrates used for food packaging. Long and short, putting is made using a polymer. Often it's a rubber plate, which is then mounted to a roller. The roller spins, is coated with ink. And the ink is placed or printed onto the film. Different plates are used for different colors of the [INAUDIBLE]. From there, the film is dried, laminated to other films or substrates, made into pouches for completion. Flexographic printing has been around, again, for a long, long time. And frankly, it is struggling to compete with other printing methods. Some advantages, though, is it can print a wider range of inks. It does a pretty good job of printing on a variety of different materials, as I mentioned earlier. Some disadvantages are that the plates just don't lay down the ink as well as other techniques, meaning the print quality just isn't as good, not as crisp or nearly as direct. The flexographic industry has come a long way with some incredible machinery, again, over the past 10 years, trying to compete. But the result has often been printing plates that are really expensive, making the upfront cost very high. Flexographic printing is just really just considered old school. It's been replaced with a radically new printing method called rotogravure. But I'll explain that in another video. So there you have it.
