Another Stand Up Pouches’ client enjoyed the spotlight last month, this time at the Nature Products Expo East in Baltimore, which has grown to become one of the city’s largest trade show events. Each year, expo organizers select a handful of "best new grocery products” from among the show’s participants. This year’s contenders included neat Foods, a family-owned business serving up a delicious, vegetarian replacement for ground beef.

“neat Foods has a really inspiring origin story,” said Katelyn Boothby, Marketing Manager for StandUpPouches.net. “Laura and Phil Lapp were simply looking for healthier, tastier ways to feed their family—including two young daughters with a concern for animal rights, but an aversion to the typical vegetarian staples, like beans.”

According to the neat Foods story, Laura Lapp began experimenting in her kitchen, and eventually produced neat’s signature recipe. Today, neat—a spontaneous pun for “meat”—is available in Mexican, Italian, and original varieties. It’s a completely shelf-stable product, brought to life with the addition or water and eggs (or a vegan egg substitute). neat is also free of gluten and soy.

From the beginning, the Lapp’s were focused on creating something healthy and all-natural. They’ve extended that focus beyond their product ingredients. “When your brand starts with a name like neat Foods, your packaging needs to follow suit,” explained Boothby.

“The neat Foods concept epitomizes what we’re all about at Stand Up Pouches. They’re providing sleek, innovative, socially-conscious, consumer-friendly alternatives to the traditional offerings. We believe in their mission for many of the reasons we value our own.”

neat is delivered to a growing list of retailers in SUP’s pouch packaging. The bags are recyclable and landfill-friendly, in addition to offering superior barrier protection against moisture, light, and odors. neat is also packaged by SABVI, the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired, at its Pennsylvania facility. SABVI provides education, rehabilitation, advocacy and employment opportunities for blind or vision impaired individuals.
